The uniqueness, the originality and the excellence of the wines of Umbria of the Duca della Corgna line are the result of the cultivation and vinification in the purity of three native vines: the Trasimeno Gamay (or Gamay Perugino), the Grechetto and the Sangiovese.
The vineyards of the associated producers are located in the hills of Castiglione del Lago, Panicale, Paciano, Città della Pieve, Pozzuolo, Vaiano and Agello, at an average height of between 250 and 350 meters. The soils are of sedimentary origin (clayey – medium mixture), sometimes with abundant skeleton and significant limestone content. However, there are limited areas where looser soils prevail.
The careful selection of the best quality grapes is at the base of the valorization of a “terroir” able to express itself thanks to wines of absolute elegance and uniqueness.
The line is made up of red wines high in barriques, reds that ripen in steel, white-leaved wines and floral and white of structure strengthened by a careful passage in the wood.
The latest addition to the range of wines is completed: a rosé, from Trasimeno Gamay grapes in white vinified purity, with delicate floral and rose aromas. The Gamay grapes, in particular, are a variety related to the Spanish Garnacha, the Sardinian Cannonau and the Tai Red of the Berici Hills.
At Gamay of Trasimeno there are also the traditional vines of the area: the classic Sangiovese and the Tuscan Trebbiano.
The Cantina del Trasimeno, producer of the Duca della Corgna wine line, has always been located in Castiglione del Lago, a village that stands on a limestone promontory that extends into Lake Trasimeno, the “closed sea” of Umbria. it was originally the fourth island.
Today, the medieval old town, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, is right on the border between Umbria and Tuscany, in the land of the Duca della Corgna. Dukes from which it takes its name, to symbolize the strong link with the territory of Trasimeno, the main wine line of Cantina del Trasimeno.
From the thirteenth century fortress of the town, the glance is exceptional; you can admire the promontory of the promontory that fade into the lake, surrounded by rolling hills marked by vineyards and olive groves.
